The Indigenous Australian language includes many language families and is only spoken in Australia and the islands nearby. In the late 1800’s, there were between 350 and 750 different Aboriginal groups and language or dialects. At the beginning of the 21st century, fewer than 150 Indigenous languages remain in daily use, and all except 20 are highly endangered. Of those languages that survive, only 10 % are being learned by the children.
